I have worked with AI systems since the 1990s, long before today’s generative models brought the term Human-AI collaboration into the mainstream. I have also spent many years in environments where collaboration, decision-making, and sense-making were critical: technology-driven organizations, data-intensive settings, and situations where capable people disagreed under pressure.
Over time, one pattern became clear: when AI creates disappointing or risky outcomes, the cause is rarely the technology itself.

In many domains, Human-AI collaboration already works well for example in medical diagnostics, robotics, or advanced automation. In these contexts, roles are clear, boundaries are explicit, and accountability remains largely stable. AI assists, augments, or advises within well-defined decision frames.
The challenge addressed on this page is different.
In leadership teams, improvement initiatives, and innovation work, AI enters situations where:

- uncertainty is unavoidable
- and responsibility cannot be delegated
